The Nursing Assistant: Dementia Care, Part 1

featured image

Dementia is a brain disorder resulting in amnesia and a decline in thinking capabilities. Its a condition that is understood to grow even worse with time and is associated with modifications in behavior and character. People typically become confused, fearful and withdrawn. Communication also ends up being more difficult. In some cases they might end up being combative and resist care. As psychological and physical working decreases, so does their ability to take care of themselves.

This revised program is to analyze how dementia impacts habits and the obstacles it presents for caregivers. The program is divided into 3 parts:

– Dementia & mental decline
– Common kinds of difficult behavior
– Last notes on dementia, claims and task loss

After finishing this course, the student must be able to:

– Describe how a decrease in mental performance can contribute to challenging habits
– Give 4 examples of modifications in mental function caused by dementia
– Give 4 examples of tough behaviors
– Provide a general definition of dementia and list 3 causes
– Explain actions you can take when a resident ends up being agitated and withstands care
