Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is once again bucking the recommendations of federal health authorities, announcing Tuesday that important employees will not be focused on in the state’s next round of coronavirus vaccinations, which he said will be concentrated on the enormous population of Floridians over 70.

At a news conference Tuesday, DeSantis scoffed at the suggestion Sunday from a CDC advisory panel that stated that the next round of vaccinations need to go to important workers, like firefighters and food employees, in addition to those 75 and older.

Instead, Florida will prioritize the more than 3 million residents older than 70, in a procedure anticipated to take six weeks.

Younger Floridians who have severe underlying health conditions are not consisted of in the next round.
