The Country Music Association and agents for the CMA’s yearly award show came under fire Saturday after country legend Charley Pride passed away of issues from COVID-19– just weeks after he received a life time achievement award at the in-person CMA Awards in Nashville and carried out a number with singer Jimmie Allen.

As protest grew that the show might have led to Pride’s infection, the association provided a declaration distancing itself from his tragic death at age 86.

” Everyone affiliated with the CMA Awards followed strict testing protocols laid out by the city health department and unions,” the group stated After returning to Texas following the CMA Awards, Charley once again checked negative numerous times.

The statement comes in reaction to criticism online from those who connected his death to the reality that the occasion took location indoors at Nashville’s Music City. Numerous acts set to perform at the event were forced to leave with little notice after testing positive for COVID-19, consisting of members of Girl A, Rascal Flatts and Florida Georgia Line.

Soon after news of Pride’s death broke, a number of prominent country vocalists questioned the awards show and its possible function in Pride’s death.

” I do not want to jump to conclusions due to the fact that no family declaration has been made, but if this was an outcome of the CMAs being indoors, we need to all be outraged. Rest in power, Charley,” composed vocalist Marren Morris, who also went to the event and took home the awards for Female Singer of the Year and Song of the Year.

Country singer Mickey Guyton reacted to Morris’ tweet, stating, “Gurl I thought the very same damn thing.”
