Students in the Nursing Assistant/Geriatric Aide program work in our contemporary skills lab for hands-on learning. After completing the classroom/skills session, students practice their skills and knowledge under the supervision of their instructor during their 45-hour clinical at a local nursing home.
After learning a variety of skills such as taking observing patients and taking vital signs, medical terminology and math, comfort care, and safety procedures. students who complete the program can apply for certification in Maryland as well as sit for the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program exam, which gives them the Geriatric Nursing Assistant certification.
If you’d like to see how these students start their medical careers in just one semester, check out the Nursing Assistant/Geriatric Aide webpage: www.allegany.edu/nursing-assistant-certificate
