How to restore your CNA Certificate

Renew your CNA Certificate every 2 years

1. An overall of 48 hours of in-service/CEU hours is needed for renewal.
2. The first year you need to finish a minimum of 12 in-service/CEU hours.
3. The 2nd year you must complete at least 12 in-service/CEU hour.
4. Only twenty-four (24) of the forty-eight (48) hours may be completed on-line.
5. You must also work at least one day for pay (8 hours) in a hospital or center.
6. NOTE: A CNA can not finish all CEUs in one accreditation period/year.

Example of 3 situations to restore your CNA certificate:
1. You can finish 24 CEU online and 24 in-service/or live class through work or an approved school
2. You finish all 48 CEU in-service/live class through work or an approved school
3. You have a mix of online and live classes that equate to 48 CEU (keep in mind that only 24 online CEU will be accepted).

Online CEUs is not a requirement it is an alternative. Only twenty-four (24) of the forty-eight (48) hours may be completed online. The rest of the hours must be completed at an authorized continuing education program.

Licensed nurse assistants are required to keep a written, cumulative list of the in-service/continuing education hours they complete for four (4) years.
